Adults/Advanced Class

The Budokan Adults class is an advanced judo class featuring full-speed randori.  Randori involves a more intensive level of physical exercise as it incorporates dynamic, high-energy sparring sessions and is best for experienced judo players.  Randori is a Japanese term meaning “free practice”, and the Adults class is where judo techniques are practiced at full speed in a controlled environment.

For adults with no judo experience, those with grappling experience such as BJJ/wrestling are encouraged to join the Adults class, but they should visit a practice first.

For adults with NO judo/grappling experience, we do special adult beginner instruction prior to the regular adults class, typically starting at 7:30 sharp.  This instruction covers ukemi, which refers to the art of falling safely. In judo, it’s inevitable that you’ll be thrown to the ground, and knowing how to fall properly can prevent serious injuries. Breakfalls are typically divided into four main types: forward rolls, backward rolls, side falls, and front falls. Each type will be introduced, demonstrated, and then practiced with guidance from the instructor.  This is by appointment only at this time, so please reach out on the contact page if you are interested in beginner adult instruction.

We prioritize the health, safety, and well-being of our community. A key part of this commitment is ensuring a sanitary and safe training environment. Therefore, it is required for all students, regardless of rank, to participate in mopping the mats after each adult class. This practice is essential for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our mats, and ensuring a secure training space. Your active participation in this task is a crucial contribution to the health and safety of our dojo community. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation in upholding this important standard.
